DOLLY LAND

Conceptual. Digital painting. 1999
Dolly Land is a futuristic expression inspired by global warming.
This project of visual anticipation utilises as a symbol of human representation, plastic dolls, photographed and digitally repainted. To ask ourselves how each generation survives the previous one with in heritage: suffering and hope.

“I play with dolls with an imagination linked to my age. Without the innocence and dreams of the little girls play.
The life of my “dollies” is without Princes and far from a fairy tale. Set in the background of a future inspired by the ecological changes of our world. A scenario where the iconic doll is a chaotic image, where the perfect aesthetic is afflicted by apparent wounds. Beyond the apparent wounds, it's a profound distress, a pain that I try to render visible; that emotion that is human history, that each of us carries inside like a chain of unfortunate events.
In a state of balance between life and survival, hidden behind an optimistic bright mask, those female representations evolve in tribes on 10% of the actual territory towards development and ephemeral organizations.
A reflection on the environment’s fatality where the individual adapts himself in peace or torment, with this faculty to progress by successive modification. "Evolving is giving in to fate"?”

STORY

The year 2163. Heatwave on earth composed of a multitude of mountainous islands. The continents have lost 90 % of their territory. The surviving population is essentially female. Very few children have survived the permanent scorching heat and Men have slowly disappeared engulfed by the collapse of enormous dams. During these last years humans have undergone numerous mutations trying to resemble fish moving and breathing in water without any apparent success... Women became beautiful during the beginning of this new millennium suffering from those spiritual and physical burns. After 2100 clothes became unbearable in spite of the refreshing and protective fabric. Water, hot and radioactive is the meeting point for a swim. Interior ponds or on the windy coast. Woods are for hiding after leaving the fields. A western island, ancient Sierra Vada: Dolly Land
